17 Międzynarodowe Letnie Seminarium Języka i Kultury Jidysz
Warszawa, 1 lipca – 19 lipca 2019

Centrum Kultury Jidysz zaprasza wszystkich miłośników języka jidysz na trzytygodniowe spotkanie z językiem żydowskim oraz z żydowską historią, literaturą, kulturą i sztuką, które odbędzie się w Warszawie w dniach 1 lipca – 19 lipca 2019.

 

Zajęcia rozpoczną się 1 lipca po południu.  Zakwaterowanie w akademiku możliwe jest dopiero od 1 lipca.

 

To kolejny kurs, który odbędzie się w Warszawie – przedwojennym światowym centrum życia żydowskiego – uczestnicy będą mieli szansę poznawać miejsca związane z historią i kulturą jidysz, zwiedzać muzea, poznawać warszawskie archiwa, a także uczestniczyć w życiu kulturalnym stolicy. Zajęcia prowadzić będą wybitni nauczyciele języka, którzy przyjadą do Warszawy z różnych miejsc świata.

 

Lekcje będą się odbywać w siedzibie Centrum Kultury Jidysz, położonej przy ulicy Andersa 15 (róg Anielewicza) – w sercu dawnej żydowskiej Warszawy.

 

W programie: lektorat języka jidysz (60h) oraz dodatkowe zajęcia popołudniowe (tutorial), konwersacje, warsztaty (warsztat teatralny, piosenki, gotowania, przekładu, czytania rękopisów), wykłady, projekcje filmów, spotkania z natywnymi mówcami języka jidysz, wycieczki z przewodnikiem oraz wspólny szabat.

 

Wśród prowadzących między innymi:

 

dr Natalia Krynicka (PYC/Paris IV-Sorbonne)

 

 

Nauczycielka, badaczka literatury jidysz i tłumaczka. Od 1995 roku pracuje w Bibliotece Medema w Paryżu, wykłada jidysz i literaturę żydowską na Sorbonie i w Centrum Kultury Jidysz (Maison de la culture yiddish). Jej doktorat dotyczył polsko-żydowskich stosunków kulturalnych w świetle tłumaczeń z polskiego na jidysz i z jidysz na polski  w latach 1885-1939. Regularnie publikowała tłumaczenia z jidysz w piśmie Cwiszn.

 

 

Reyze Turner

Nauczycielka jidysz w Maison de la culture Yiddish, a dawniej w Boston Workmen’s Circle. Jest magistrantką jidysz na Uniwersytecie Hebrajskim w Jerozolimie, otrzymała wiele grantów na tłumaczenia jidysz, między innymi z US National Endowment for the Arts. Opublikowała swoje tłumaczenia w In geveb, Pakn Treger i kilku antologiach drukowanych. Często pisze w języku jidysz dla Forverts i Afn Shvel. Lubi śpiewać w języku jidysz i uczestniczyła w ubiegłym roku w tworzeniu i pokazie muzycznej inscenizacji multimedialnej „Opowieści Reb Nakhmenke: Wędrówka po pustyni” I.L. Pereca w paryskim Centrum Jidysz.

Lingwistka, tłumaczka, jidyszystka, absolwentka germanistyki na Uniwersytecie Warszawskim. Na Wydziale Neofilologii Uniwersytetu Warszawskiego obroniła w 2012 roku doktorat o kontaktach językowych jidysz-polskich. Stypendystka m.in. The Goldstein-Goren Diaspora Research Center, Vilnius Yiddish Institute, YIVO Institute for Jewish Research. Była redaktorką działu “Język” w kwartalniku “CWISZN. Żydowski kwartalnik o literaturze i sztuce”. Od siedmiu lat uczy jidysz, m.in. na Międzynarodowym Letnim Seminarium Języka i Kultury Jidysz w Warszawie. Jako tłumaczka współpracuje m.in. z Żydowskim Instytutem Historycznym w Warszawie (m.in. jako tłumaczka w projekcie “Nowa edycja Archiwum Ringelbluma”), Muzeum Historii Żydów Polskich Polin w Warszawie. Jest także zaprzysiężoną tłumaczką z języka jidysz.

 

 

Dr Paul Hershl Glasser

 

Paul Glasser otrzymał doktorat z lingwistyki na Uniwersytecie Columbia. Pełnił funkcję dziekana Centrum Maxa Weinreicha w Instytucie Studiów Żydowskich YIVO. Przez wiele lat uczył języka i lingwistyki jidysz. Był redaktorem angielskiego przekładu “Historii języka jidysz” Maxa Weinreicha i współredaktorem wielu innych publikacji. Był redaktorem naczelnym czasopisma “Yugntruf”, członkiem redakcji “Tsukunft”, a obecnie zasiada w redakcji “Afn shvel”. Jest współredaktorem nowego kompleksowego słownika angielsko-jidyszowego. Obecnie tłumaczy “Historię warszawskich Żydów” Jacoba Shatzky’ego na język angielski.

Daria Vakhrushova

Daria Vakhrushova jest doktorantką na Uniwersytecie Heinricha Heinego w Düsseldorfie. Studiowała translatorykę i teorię tłumaczeń w Państwowym Uniwersytecie Lingwistycznym w Niżnym Nowogrodzie w Rosji. W 2016 r. uzyskała tytuł magistra w dziedzinie kultury, języka i literatury jidysz w Düsseldorfie. W 2017 r. dołączyła do projektu GIF (Fundacja Niemiecko-Izraelska) “In Their Surroundings”. Jej doktorat poświęcony jest jidyszowemu projektowi kulturalnemu w Związku Radzieckim i obejmuje badanie aspektów literackich, językowych i kulturowych. Obecnie prowadzi kursy nowoczesnej literatury i kultury jidysz na Uniwersytecie Heinricha Heinego.

What do we offer?

 

60 hrs of language instruction.
10 hrs of afternoon language tutorial for beginners / speaking classes for more advanced students.

 

Afternoon lectures and a handful of workshops (e.g. Yiddish song, theater, reading Yiddish manuscripts), evening movie screenings.

 

Guided tours in Warsaw (the Jewish cemetery with tombstones of Y.L. Peretz, Chone Shmeruk and others; the Jewish quarter of Praga on the right bank of the Vistula river, the Warsaw ghetto) as well as visits to the Jewish Historical Institute and other venues and museums.

 

The lectures and language instructions will be given by specialists from various centers, including Warsaw University, Jagiellonian University, Wrocław University, Warsaw Museum of the History of Polish Jews, Polish Academy of Science and Jewish Historical Institute and others.

 

Participants will also get a unique opportunity to meet native Yiddish speakers from Poland and learn about the history of postwar Yiddish culture and other topics from the best specialists in the field.

 

Among the instructors:

Dr. Natalia Krynicka (PYC/Paris IV-Sorbonne)

Natalia Krynicka is an acknowledged teacher, researcher and translator of Yiddish literature. Since 1995 she has worked at the Medem Library in Paris, where she is the co-director of pedagogy and the chief librarian. She teaches Yiddish and Jewish literature at the Sorbonne and at the Center for Yiddish Culture (Maison de la culture Yiddish) and on international seminars in Paris, Strasbourg, Vilnius. Her doctorate concerned the Polish-Jewish cultural relations in the light of translations from Polish to Yiddish and from Yiddish to Polish in the years 1885-1939. She has regularly published Yiddish translations in “Cwiszn” magazine and others.

 

 

Reyze Turner

 

Yiddish teacher at the Paris Yiddish Center (Maison de la culture Yiddish), and formerly at the Boston Workmen’s Circle. She is a master’s degree candidate in Yiddish at Hebrew University in Jerusalem, and she has received multiple grants for Yiddish translation, from the US National Endowment for the Arts, among others. She has published her translations in In geveb, Pakn Treger, and several print anthologies, and she also writes frequently in Yiddish for the Forverts and Afn shvel. She enjoys singing in Yiddish, and took part this past year in creating and performing in a musical multimedia staged reading of I.L. Peretz’s story “Reb Nakhmenke’s Tales: Wandering in the Desert” at the Paris Yiddish Center.

Linguist, translator, yiddishist, a graduate of German at the University of Warsaw. At the Faculty of Modern Languages at the University of Warsaw in 2012 she defended her doctorate about Yiddish-Polish language contacts. She received scholarships of The Goldstein-Goren Diaspora Research Center, Vilnius Yiddish Institute, YIVO Institute for Jewish Research. She was an editor of the “Language” section of the “Cwiszn. Jewish quarterly magazine of literature and art”. She teaches Yiddish for seven years, among others during International Summer Seminar of Yiddish Language and Culture in Warsaw. As a translator she cooperates with the Jewish Historical Institute in Warsaw (as a translator of the new edition of the Ringelblum Archive), Polin Museum of the History of Polish Jews. She is also a sworn translator of Yiddish.

 

 

Dr Paul Hershl Glasser

 

Paul Glasser received his doctorate in linguistics from Columbia University. He served as dean of the Max Weinreich Center at the YIVO Institute for Jewish Research. He has taught Yiddish language and linguistics for many years. He was the editor of the English translation of Max Weinreich’s History of the Yiddish Language and co-editor of numerous other publications. He has been editor-in-chief of Yugntruf magazine, a member of the editorial board of Tsukunft, and now serves on the editorial board of Afn shvel. He is the co-editor of the new Comprehensive English-Yiddish Dictionary, the key to Yiddish of the 21st century. He is currently translating Jacob Shatzky’s History of Jews in Warsaw into English.

Daria Vakhrushova

Daria Vakhrushova is a doctoral student at Heinrich Heine University, Düsseldorf. She studied translation and translation theory at Nizhny Novdorod State Linguistics University, Russia, and received her MA degree in Yiddish culture, language, and literature in Düsseldorf in 2016. In 2017, she joined the GIF (German-Israeli Foundation) project In Their Surroundings. Her PhD project is devoted to the Yiddish cultural project in the Soviet Union and includes the study of literary, linguistic and cultural aspects. She is currently teaching courses on modern Yiddish literature and culture at Heinrich Heine University.
